Quote of the day: " I have heard about it and I have read about it, but only today, I understand what a " hash house harriers " is! " .

by the honourable district officer of Jasin.

All's well that ends well! Weekly meetings, budgets, worrisome for participation, sponsorship, food and drinks really made the committee headache, but every effort is worth it. Yes, 800 hashers from as far as Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore , other states and locals had turned up for this grand bash.

I reached the run site which was at the Yu Hsien Primary School, Jasin by 2.00pm. The harriets had set up the registration counters and the crowd were slowly coming in. The Brunei HHH group was the first to reach and by 3.00pm, the ball breaker runners and the mountain bike hashers were all ready to go. The ball breaker runners started at 3.10pm and there were 22 of them out of whom five from Singapore came 10 mins late. Not to worry, they looked like elite runners.Sam had a good story on it.  Sam's story ..

By 5.00pm, the pack of 7-800 hashers had already turned up. The crowd started to gather at the basketball court at the back and after the welcome speechs of the GM and the district Officer of Jasin, the pack exploded out to the trail. " I have heard about it and I have read about it and only today do I understand what a " hash house harries " is! " so said by our distinguished district officer.

We started from the front gate of the school and at a very short time we reached a construction site and I was told that it was the old site of the Jasin golf course. What a pity! the developers have destroyed that beautiful golf course which had existed with the Jasin town for quite a long time. Never mind that, we soon entered into our trail which was actually a 10km hash run in an undulating terrain through oil palm, rubber, durians plantations. There were three checks and a false trail, and in between we came across some deep ditches where you needed a partner to help you in getting out. As some of the hashers went back trail running and half way we met groups running breathlessly in opposite direction. A young harriet was deserted by her boy friend and daddy who decided to turn back, the young gal refused and insisted to complete. she looked exhausted, so we accompanied her together with guys from KL H3 and Orang Utan. It turned out to be a leisure walk as the gal could run no more. We must be few of the last ones and almost towards the end, three guys from Penang H3 caught up and finally together we came out from the trail and emerged out to Kampung Simpan " B ". The gal felt so relieved when she heard the sound of the pack at run site. It was about 7.15pm and we had taken more than 2 hours to complete the whole trail. I would say that it was a very reasonable run, and thanks to the hare & Co.

I missed the hash circle, the sitting on ice show, and also the roasted pork, but luckily Sweeti Pie kept some for us since she was one of the appointed meat choppers. There was plenty of food and beer kept free flowing. I have tasted the fried Tau Fu, chicken rice, roti canai, and roasted pork. They were really nice.

The program was soon on at the school hall, and the ex GMs, including me were called upon to the stage to cut the birthday cake and on down, followed by all the Gms of all chapters to the stage to on down. the cultural shows soon followed:- the Malay dances, Indian dances, Portuguese dances and the last, the climax of the night, the pair of the Chinese spice girls singing and performing to the ecstasy of the audience as well as they themselves. In between, there were special show from the Orang Utan H3, Melaka and the boat race for the H3 couples. Meanwhile the harriers and the harriets did not waste time, and they had their jolly good dancing on the floor too. I left at 12.00 midnight, but they said the bash kept going until 1am in the morning.

The second day program ( 15th May 05 ):
The Recovery Run was at the Rotunda, Malacca Club, Tanjong Kling. Only five rare species participated the recovery run. They were the GM Balan, the Ball Breaker runner Sam, Silverfox of KL H3, Peter and his partner Lily of Miri H3. The run started at 10.45am and it was really hot and sunny, but anyway the pack carried on. I was told that they ran through Malay kampungs and along the beach. The run lasted an hour or so. About a hundred turned up for the party. Food and drinks were served and that was the time to catch up with the good old buddies, the hash council also completed their meeting. The party was over at about 2.30pm.

The two days program was compact and the hashers enjoyed themselves very much and on the whole it was a very successful celebration run. A picture is worth more than a thousand words, please click on the photos to see what really happened!
