Rehashed Run No: 1694; Hares: Utom Singh/Sukminderjeet Kaur aka Tomy Boy & Partner; Date: 12th June, 2007; Venue: Pulau Sebang Industrial Park, Pulau Sebang.
Tomy Boy & partner are a loving couple and senior MH3 members from Tampin, Negeri Sembilan. In spite of the far distance, the former used to attend the weekly run regularly in all parts of Malacca. Undoubtedly he is one of the devoted hashers and energetic front runners.
Come yesterday, it was their turn as hares. As announced earlier, their runsite was set at the same place as the last Vaisakhi Run 3 weeks ago. As it is a challenging runsite which is seldom being made used of, it was expected to attract a big turn-out.
It was a sunny afternoon after a heavy morning downpour. On arrival there early with my partner and Sleeping Beauty, we saw only one earlier bird. He is none other than devoted hasher Dr. Pandirajah. Very soon we were joined by Dr. Lingkun and Kiasu Lee who came together with two long-lost harriets Tok Ai Lian and Agnes. Although grandfather stories were exchanged, we did not know why they were absent for so long. Most probably they were too busy with their works. Anyway, they still looked pretty and fit.
It was at 5.35 pm that the patience got the better of us. In anticipation of a tough and long run, Tok Ai Lian, Agnes, my partner and I started off as early birds. We followed the paper on a laterite road towards the north which turned left for a short distance before hitting a tarred road which was the home trail of the last Vaisakhi Run. From then on, it was another 30 minutes walk cum jog on the tarred and laterite roads and up an undulating and steep hill in a rubber plantation before hitting the first and only check on its top. It was a tough climb which made us panting and sweating profusely from head to toe. From there we could see the beautiful scenery of Taman Baiduri housing estate nearby. It was a tough check. It took me some 15 minutes to scout around in circle on the undulating terrain to find its connecting paper hiding in the bush downhill towards the north. By then we were joined by scheduled front runners Ranger, Dennis the Menace, Rubbish Bui, Strawberry, Dr. Pandirajah and Dr. Tan.
The paper continued heading northward for a short distance before ascending another steep, bushy and undulating hill. It was another tough climb to its top. While descending, we were being caught up by GM Cocker and a few other scheduled runners. For the purpose of easing our tension, we engaged ourselves in chit-chatting.
It was another some 20 minutes trudge through the rubber plantation before the paper hit a T-junction. In stead of turning left to the home trail, it turned right. A short distance away, it proceeded up the third and last hill on a laterite road. Half way to its top, it turned right into a bushy trail with a tight barbed wire fencing. A few back runners who were reluctant to follow the paper took the shortcut up by climbing through the steep bushy terrain. Luckily none of us including Killer Tony and The Stud got our balls stuck. Otherwise it would pose problem to our two veterinary doctors to get them replaced.
The downhill descent was through an undulating, bushy and slippery terrain. It required the assistance of fellow hasher to ensure its smooth descent. At the foot of the hill the paper headed westward on a laterite road for some 15 minutes before passing by an Indian temple. On being asked, an Indian boy told me that we were at Taboh Naning which is quite a far distance away from the runsite. A short distance ahead, the paper hit the Simpang Empat – Pulau Sebang Road where it turned left on the busy motorway. It then trudged on for some 2 km passing by the main entrance of A Formosa Resort before turning left into a bushy, undulating and muddy path. By then the sky had started to fall dark making the vision poor. Luckily Carol the Twin Towers and I had each brought along a torch light which was of great help in locating the paper trail. From then on, it was another slow walk of some 2 km before arriving back at the runsite at 8.15 pm. The last runners were back 15 minutes later when the hash circle was on.
It was a long and tough hilly run of 9.5 km as measured by GM Cocker with the use of GPS. It took the hare Tomy Boy 2 ½ hours to set after conducting 3 reccees with the assistance of co-hare Govind. According to him, there were another 2 checks and 3 false trails which might have been found and joined by the front runners. Credit should be given to them for their good effort.
Hash circle was conducted by GM Cocker. It was well-attended by some 30 hashers who included some guests. As usual, the hares and the sinners were put on ice and on-downed.
On-On was held at the Baiduri Mesra Restaurant in the nearby Taman Baiduri. It was well-attended with 5 tables fully occupied. A 5-course Chinese dinner was served. Another on-downed session was held for the hares and the sinners. It was then that Alex Tiew made the announcement that his coming run on 19th June, 2007 would be held in Serkam which is a short distance away from the JPJ College in Tiang Dua. See you there, fellow hashers!
It was a marvelous night. The dinner was on the hares. The crowd had only started to disperse at 10.45 pm. Thank you, hares!
On! On!
